Kogo and Kiros wins Cape Elizabeth 10km race.

Kogo and Kiros cruise to 10km wins in Cape Elizabeth

August 6th Saturday.

Men's race
Kenyan Micah Kogo for men section and Aheza Kiros of Ethiopia in the women section cruised to victory in the 14th edition of the TD Bank Beach to Beacon 10K Road Race on Saturday (6) in Cape Elizabeth, Maine.

Kogo (27:48), the 10,000m 2008 Beijing Olympics bronze medal winner ran a frontal attacking fashion and left the whole group from the 4th mile.  Kogo's time was 27:28 while fellow countrymen Lucas Rotich (27:56) and Ed Muge (27:59), the 2008 and 2009 Beach to Beacon champion ended third. Patrick Smyth, 25, the first American ran a 28:39, which enabled him to take the ninth placing. 


Women's Race
Un the women’s section of the race, 25-year-old Aheza Kiros (32:09), a race favourite, did Ethiopians proud by winning in the women's section of the race. Kenyan Jelliah Tinega, 25, was awarded second place while Buzunesh Deba, 23, of Ethiopia, finished third after a neck and neck run time was 32:35.5 for both. The first American finisher was Sara Slattery, 29, of Boulder, Colo., who took sixth (33:36).

There were altogether an overwhelming 5,876 runners from 12 countries, from 43 states. The race was a  picturesque 6.2-mile course warm and humid, which was run in the morning beside Maine coast. There was very good crowd support along the race route.

Overall prize money was $60,000 which was awarded to the runners, including $10,000 for the overall male and female winners, $5,000 for the second place winners and cash prizes for the top 10 finishers and in the different categories.

Rameshon has taught in Hwa Chong Institution, plus several schools, and Republic Polytechnic as well. He has won many accolades and he was awarded Merit Award for 1991 marathon performance in breaking the national record of Singapore, at that time. He has made 22 male athletes do a marathon in sub-3hrs. He has made 7 female runners do sub-4 hours for the marathon, as well. He was inducted to the ‘Roll of Honour’  by the then College of Physical Education, organised by Singapore Olympic Academy, in 1998, for breaking the National record repeatedly 4 times, till he did 2hr 24min 22sec).

He also has a Coaching group and he trains them on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7pm at Botanic Gardens. Those interested can call him at 91004369 for coaching assistance, to improve performance.
