Chemos gunning for a 3000m Steeplechase World record in Brussels



Milcah Chemos, getting stronger over time

Brussels, Belgium 

Twenty-five-year-old Kenyan Milcah Chemos Cheywa has declared that she is going for the 3000m Steeplechase World Record at the Belgacom Memorial Van Damme on 16 September, which is going to be the final stop on the 2011 Samsung Diamond League series.

Her track record since June 2010 shows that she has won 12 out of 13 races in the 3000m Steeplechase  She set her personal best at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin clocking 9:08.57. She is also running on for the World Championships, which starts from 27 August in Daegu, Korea. The current world record is 8min 58.81sec set by Samitova at the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008.

Rameshon has taught in Hwa Chong Institution, plus several schools, and Republic Polytechnic as well. He has won many accolades and he was awarded Merit Award for 1991 marathon performance in breaking the national record of Singapore, at that time. He has made 22 male athletes do a marathon in sub-3hrs. He has made 7 female runners do sub-4 hours for the marathon, as well. He was inducted to the ‘Roll of Honour’  by the then College of Physical Education, organised by Singapore Olympic Academy, in 1998, for breaking the National record repeatedly 4 times, till he did 2hr 24min 22sec).
