In heat 1 of the 5000m women's race, Hitomi Niiya from Japan was able to dominate the 1st and 2nd km in a time of 3min 03.70sec and 6min 12.00sec. Subsequently, Russian Yelena Zadorozhnaya was able to cross the 3km mark, leading the field in a time of 9min 20.10sec. At the 4th km mark, Ethiopian Meseret Defar came out of the women's running field and did a time of 12min 28.10sec. At the 5km mark, it was still Meseret Defar and she came with the fastest time for the heats with a time of 15min 19.46sec.
In heat 2, of the 5000m women's race, it was all the way led by Russian Elizaveta until coming to the final 1km where 6 women overtook her and the Russian came in 6th instead of first. Again for this heats it was Ethiopian Dibaba winning the slow heat with a time of 15m 33.06sec. Fortunately for Russian Elizaveta, she managed to qualify for the finals of 5000m for women.

Rameshon has taught in Hwa Chong Institution, plus several schools, and Republic Polytechnic as well. He has won many accolades and he was awarded Merit Award for 1991 marathon performance in breaking the national record of Singapore, at that time. He has made 22 male athletes do a marathon in sub-3hrs. He has made 7 female runners do sub-4 hours for the marathon, as well. He was inducted to the ‘Roll of Honour’ by the then College of Physical Education, organised by Singapore Olympic Academy, in 1998, for breaking the National record repeatedly 4 times, till he did 2hr 24min 22sec).
He also has a Coaching group and he trains them on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7pm at Botanic Gardens. Those interested can call him at 91004369 for coaching assistance, to improve performance.
