Daegu 2011 – Expected Highlights - Day Two, 28 August
The first race today is the men’s 20Km Race. Defending champion Russian Valeriy Borchin will be the man to watch. He’ll face a stiff challenge from China’s Zhen Wang and Yafei Chu, the fastest in the world this year at 1:18:37 and 1:18:45, respectively.
Men’s 10,000m
The acid test will be in the men’s 10,000m, where favourite Mo Farah, after his dazzling unbeaten record this year on the track. He’s also the year’s fastest over both 5000m and 10,000m, having beaten the best in the world so far.
Kenenisa Bekele may be running in this event. The Ethiopian has never lost a 10,000m race – his first was in 2003 – and has amassed an astounding 22 World Championships (track and Cross Country) gold medals. Little is known about him except his remark to the reporters saying, “I’m ready for the challenge and looking forward to it.”
Today is men’s 800m semi-finals, World record holder Kenyan David Rudisha and fellow countryman Abubaker Kaki will continue their hunt for the medals. However, they will also face the acid test that only the first two in each of the three heats is guaranteed to advance.
Women's Race
Two-time defending 1500m champion Maryam Jamal of Bahrain will be expected to run today.

Rameshon has taught in Hwa Chong Institution, plus several schools, and Republic Polytechnic as well. He has won many accolades and he was awarded Merit Award for 1991 marathon performance in breaking the national record of Singapore, at that time. He has made 22 male athletes do a marathon in sub-3hrs. He has made 7 female runners do sub-4 hours for the marathon, as well. He was inducted to the ‘Roll of Honour’ by the then College of Physical Education, organised by Singapore Olympic Academy, in 1998, for breaking the National record repeatedly 4 times, till he did 2hr 24min 22sec).
He also has a Coaching group and he trains them on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7pm at Botanic Gardens. Those interested can call him at 91004369 for coaching assistance, to improve performance.
