Kenia Sinclaire of Jamaica wins the 800m race at Prefontaine Classic 2011

Favourite South African Semenya ran the 800m in 1 minute, 58.88 seconds and finished just 0.59sec away from Kenia Sinclair of Jamaica. The South African, last year, has not been competing much because of the controversial gender testing. She was, however, happy with the reasonable time as it was a sub-2min and she feels that over time she can faster since she is cleared from the gender issue. Semenya commented that time was her opponent and not the position and she felt that the race was good as she is progressing very well and is hoping to go back to where she was in the past, near 1min 55sec. She is also happy that she has now come out of her serious injury which was shown in the IAAF World Challenge Dakar Grand Prix.

In another race, American Bernard Lagat came in first in the 2-mile run in 8:13.62.  Haron Keitany of Kenya came in champion in the mile race with a time of 3:49.09. Abubaker Kaki Khamis broke the men's 800m meet record in a time of !:43.68. Kenya's Ezekiel Kemboi won the 3000m men's steeplechase event.
