IAAF Gold Label Road Races for 2011




15 marathons has been awarded the IAAF Gold Label Road Race certification, the highest-level certification in the world for road races, for the year 2011. In 2010, there were 14. There is a marked improvement in countries organising these races.

The IAAF Gold Label is awarded to road races after the race is assessed according to 21 challenging requirements. The five basic requirements include:


- participation of high-level professional athletes, both men and women, coming from at least 5 different nations


- performance of professional athletes with times under 2:10.30 (men) and 2:28.00 (women)


- promotional campaigns carried out at the international level


- race broadcast in at least 5 foreign countries


- accurate organization allowing a regular and smooth race. Maratona di Roma meets all of the 21 criteria.

Rameshon has taught in Hwa Chong Institution, plus several schools, and Republic Polytechnic as well. He has won many accolades and he was awarded Merit Award for 1991 marathon performance in breaking the national record of Singapore, at that time. He has made 22 male athletes do a marathon in sub-3hrs. He has made 7 female runners do sub-4 hours for the marathon, as well. He was inducted to the ‘Roll of Honour’  by the then College of Physical Education, organised by Singapore Olympic Academy, in 1998, for breaking the National record repeatedly 4 times, till he did 2hr 24min 22sec).


He also has a Coaching group and he trains them on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7pm at Botanic Gardens. Those interested can call him at 91004369 for coaching assistance, to improve performance.
