Ottawa Marathon 2011

The 2011 edition of the Ottawa Race during the weekend saw about 40,000 participants in seven races, including the marathon, the half-marathon, the 10K, 5K, family 2K and kids marathon.

The Ottawa Marathon and Ottawa 10K were both designated Silver Label IAAF events by the International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF).



Run Ottawa, the organization behind the Ottawa Race Weekend was organised by a volunteer Board of Directors, who are dedicated to promoting the sport of running and enhancing the health and well-being of our community by organizing distinctive world-class and local races and managing an active, membership-based running club.



Kenyan Man and Ethiopian Women Win Ottawa marathon, respectively
A Kenyan man and Ethiopian woman came in first in Ottawa Race Weekend's new marathon route along crowd-filled Ottawa-Gatineau streets.



Laban Moiben of Trento, Kenya ran 2:10:17 in a sprint to the finish with Dereje Abera Ali of Briarcliff, Ethiopia, who trailed by only one second. 



Kebebush Haile Lema, from Ethiopia, came in first woman in 2:32:14. Fellow Ethiopians Birkuktawit Eshetu Degefa and Radiya Adilo Roba came in second and third with a time of 2:33:14 and 2:36:58, respectively.

Rameshon has taught in Hwa Chong Institution, plus several schools, and Republic Polytechnic as well. He has won many accolades and he was awarded Merit Award for 1991 marathon performance in breaking the national record of Singapore, at that time. He has made 22 male athletes do a marathon in sub-3hrs. He has made 7 female runners do sub-4 hours for the marathon, as well. He was inducted to the ‘Roll of Honour’  by the then College of Physical Education, organised by Singapore Olympic Academy, in 1998, for breaking the National record repeatedly 4 times, till he did 2hr 24min 22sec).

He also has a Coaching group and he trains them on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7pm at Botanic Gardens. Those interested can call him at 91004369 for coaching assistance, to improve performance.
