Szer, 39, was running races and training very hard all year long. His previous best time was 2hr 00min. He became determined to do well in a marathon race, starting from last year. He ran in the Stanchart Marathon 2012 and was strong enough to do a big personal best, which was a sub-4hr. However, his hopes were dashed when a recurring injury had him pull out of the race in the end.

His doctor told him that he has to run with the injury and there is no quick solution to this. His training has just been adjusted so that there is no impact to the bones.

Having said that, since for the first time he has done a sub-2hr for the half-marathon, I thought that it would be a good idea to interview him and put his achievement in the blog post.

Team Flexifitness would like to congratulate Szer for his achievement in this race.

An Interview With Lim Szer Khee

What distance did you run today?
This is my first race for 2013 since the Stanchart marathon last year. I did a 21km 2XU run.

What is your time for half-marathon in the past?
My PB prior to this was exactly 2 hours at the Marina 21km run 2 years ago.

What was the timing of the run?
I did a 1:56:03 this time round, a new PB

Are you happy with the time?
I am generally fine with the timing, though I have a target of 1:50. But I am not complaining as I only had 5 hours of sleep after my return flight from HK on Sat.

How was the organisation of the run?
The organisation of the run is ok, but I find it a little too packed with participants especially at the beginning and at the turn along Geylang road into Kallang River. The stretch along Kallang River was also very dark and most runners have to slow down intentionally to prevent any accident.

Any feedback that you want to say about the organisation so that they can improve the race?
Limit the participants or alternatively, let participants be aware that there will be 3 separate waves so that participants who are going for their PB will be aware and move into the 1st wave

Can you share with us whether you would have done a better time or the time you did today?
Yes. Physically, I felt good during the race and was running at a moderate pace. I had been hitting the treadmill and track with the coach for regular 5 to 12km since my injury from SCB 2012 and this is my first 21km road run since. I was treading on the safe side and taking care not to injure myself again. I am confident to improve and reach my goal of 1:50 with the regular training regime designed by coach Rameshon.

What is your next target?
Next race is sundown 21km. I am going for 1:50!
