David Rudisha

Right from the start, David Rudisha took the usual chance of going to the front. While running, his competitors, four of them were tagging just behind him. It was a show of anything can happen. Somewhere at the 300m mark onwards Rudisha, in a relaxed manner, brought the pack to a 49sec round, within the target of a world record for 800m.

It was very ominous as the four competitors were showing signs of a surprise at the finish. I could see that at the 500m, David Rudisha pushed the paced a bit to have an advantage over his opponents by keeping a distance. This went on all the way until the last 150m. It was a solo race and finally, David broke the record set by him. from 1min 41.01sec to 1min 40.91sec. The 23-year-old world champion was five metres clear of Nijel Amos of Botswana after taking control of the race from an early stage and charged down the home straight at the capacity crowd rose to their feet. The world will admire this valiant attempt by this young gentleman from Kenya. In the past, he was breaking the record by assistance coming from his teammates. In this Olympics in London, he was very brave and courageous right from the start. Hooray to him!
