3rd Aug - 1 Day Round-up of Middle and Long Distance Races.

Tirunesh Dibaba won the gold medal in the women's 10,000m 1st day of the long-distance race in London. Dibaba, 27, in the past, had won the 10km distance at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, was able to fend off Sally Kipyego and Vivian Cheruiyot with a final-lap burst and defeat both of them by more than five seconds. It was a season's best 30:20.75 for Dibaba. Kipyego was second in 30:26.37, and world champion Cheruiyot took the bronze in 30:30.44.

In 1500m heats for men
In the men's 1500m heats, Algeria's Taoufik Makhloufi ran as the fastest with a time of 3:35.15. Defending champion Kenya's Asbel Kiprop, who is aiming to emulate Sebastian Coe's Olympic feat, was a controlling the pace by coming in third-fastest in 3:36.59. Only time will tell later on as who will be the final winners.

Rameshon has taught in Hwa Chong Institution, plus several schools, and Republic Polytechnic as well. He has won many accolades and he was awarded Merit Award for 1991 marathon performance in breaking the national record of Singapore, at that time. He has made 22 male athletes do a marathon in sub-3hrs. He has made 7 female runners do sub-4 hours for the marathon, as well. He was inducted to the ‘Roll of Honour’  by the then College of Physical Education, organised by Singapore Olympic Academy, in 1998, for breaking the National record repeatedly 4 times, till he did 2hr 24min 22sec).

He also has a Coaching group and he trains them on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7pm at Botanic Gardens. Those interested can call him at 91004369 for coaching assistance, to improve performance.
