Olympics marathon: Ethiopia's Tiki Gelana not only wins gold but the record as well

Ethiopia's Tiki Gelana broke the Olympic record for the marathon and won a gold medal in the London Olympics 2012, in women's race with a record time of 2 hours, 23 minutes and seven seconds. Kenya's Priscah Jeptoo was five seconds away settling for silver while Russia's Tatyana Petrova Arkhipova took bronze. Mary Keitany, the pre-race favourite and the London Marathon 2012 champion was fourth, while Petrova set a personal best time of 2hr 23min 29sec and ended the race by coming in third. Freya Murray, the replacement for Paula Radcliffe's withdrawal from the Games due to injury was the best-placed Briton, 9min 07sec away in 44th place.

Rameshon has taught in Hwa Chong Institution, plus several schools, and Republic Polytechnic as well. He has won many accolades and he was awarded Merit Award for 1991 marathon performance in breaking the national record of Singapore, at that time. He has made 22 male athletes do a marathon in sub-3hrs. He has made 7 female runners do sub-4 hours for the marathon, as well. He was inducted to the ‘Roll of Honour’  by the then College of Physical Education, organised by Singapore Olympic Academy, in 1998, for breaking the National record repeatedly 4 times, till he did 2hr 24min 22sec).
