Makau - Ready to run Frankfurt Marathon.

Kenya surprised many by leaving marathon world record holder Patrick Makau out of their 2012 Olympic squad. It was a difficult decision to make as Kenya had an abundance of talent. Even 2011 New York and Boston marathon winner Geoffrey Mutai and Emmanuel Mutai, who won in London last year, were not included in the race at all. However, before the London Olympics 2012, Kenya was very confident that they could claim the gold at the games. In fact, 2012 London Marathon winner Wilson Kipsang and double world champion Abel Kirui were chosen in their squad, while also giving a nod to Moses Mosop's for his third place in the Rotterdam marathon.
As the Olympics is already over, Patrick Makau attention is now focused on running in the BMW Frankfurt Marathon, which falls on 28 October. The 27-year-old Kenyan established the World record of 2:03:38 in Berlin a year ago.

"It is an honour for us that such an outstanding athlete has chosen to run the BMW Frankfurt Marathon," Race Director Jo Schindler told reporters.

Patrick Makau upstaged and beat the great Haile Gebrselassie when he broke the record a year ago in Berlin, The Ethiopian was the world record holder just before the race. Makau improved that world mark by 21 seconds.

Kipsang’s is another favourite for this the BMW Frankfurt Marathon. "The fact that Patrick has decided in favour of Frankfurt shows his determination to run a very good race and a fast time," said Christoph Kopp to reporters
