Mo Farah and Gebrselassie set to meet for Half Marathon clash in Newcastle

Months before the Olympics Games 2012, Gebrselassie was nearly chosen for the 10000m race in London Olympics. However, although he won the BUPA Great Manchester 10km 2012, in a well respected time, the other Ethiopian elite athletes were chosen as the Ethiopian organisers felt the other three Ethiopian athletes were better than Haile, instead. Haile Gebrselassie time for the Great Manchester race was 27 minutes 39 seconds, while two of his own countrymen by the names of T Kebede and A Abshero did 27:56 and 27:56 to come in second and fourth in that race. The surprise is that current London Olympics marathon winner Stephen Kiprotich did 28min 19sec coming in fourth with Kenyan Patrick Makau who did a time of  28min 21sec by coming in fifth for the race.

In the recent 10000m London Olympics race, Mo Farah came in first, while his training partner Galen Rupp, from the USA, came in second. In that race, all three Ethiopian elite runners were able to come in top 8 only. However much they tried, they were unable to stop Mo Farah from winning the race. In that race, all three Ethiopians - Bekele Tariku (27min 31.43sec, Bekele Kenenisa (27min 32.44sec) and Gebremariam (27m 36.34sec) came in 3rd, 4th and 8th.

Bekele Kenenisa did 27min 01.17sec in the 2008 Beijing Olympics for 10000m, while fellow countryman Sileshi Sihine came in second with a time of 27min 02.77sec. Bekele Kenenisa was able to come in first in the 5000m race in the Beijing Olympics.

Bekele Kenenisa still holds the 5000m (12min 37.35sec) and 10000m (26min 17.53sec) world record with a remarkable time. Hence, besides winning many elite runners in the finals of 5km and 10km of Olympics, it is incredible that Mo Farah had finally won in both 5km and 10km races, which shows that more is yet to come from this 29-year-old in the near future.

Olympics is over - The race is between Mo Farah and Haile Gebrselassie now

Mo Farah now is about to face Gebrselassie in next month's Bupa Great North Run and this is going to be a very exciting race to see. Although Gebrselassie was not chosen for the Olympics, he has not lost his Midas touch of winning a number of 10km, half-marathon and marathon races.

Farah, Great Britain's fastest Half Marathon performer with a time of 1:00:23 will face Gebrselassie, the world's greatest ever distance runner on this coming 16 September.

Gebrselassie, a former World Half Marathon record holder, still has a personal best time of 58:55 and is set to run in the Great North Run, where on his debut in 2010 he won in a very impressive time of 59:33.

We may see Farah becoming the first British athlete ever to do a sub - 60 minutes barrier with 54,000 runners participant running in the race. So far, Mo Farah has run in only one serious Half Marathon race which he won in New York last year against a very competitive field. Mo Farah has not crossed the sub-1hr barrier but in the coming race, he may do this feat as Gebrselassie does sub - 1hr for any usual half-marathon, each time he runs.
