Top Bahrain runners win 10000m in Asian Champs

Bahrain takes both 10,000m titles in Kobe - Asian champs, Day 1

Bahrain's Mahboob Ali Hassan and 21- year -old Shitaye Eshete Habtegebrel won the men’s and women's 10,000m title, respectively, on the first day of the competition of the 19th Asian Athletics Championships. Mahboob's time was 28min 35.49sec. He is also known as the winner in the Doha Asian Games in 2006. Last year, in Guangzhou, in China, Mahboob was also the winner of the 5000m race. He and teammate stepped up the tempo to beat  Japanese Hitomi Nakamura and Kaoru Nagao.

In the women's race, another Bahrain's Bilsuma Shugi Gelasa was second during the race and she is known as the winner of the Asian Games 2010. India's Preeja Shreedharan was third. Asian Games silver winner, Kavita Raut was nowhere near the top 3 female runners. Habtegebrel won the race in 32:47.8.

Rameshon has taught in Hwa Chong Institution, plus several schools, and Republic Polytechnic as well. He has won many accolades and he was awarded Merit Award for 1991 marathon performance in breaking the national record of Singapore, at that time. He has made 22 male athletes do a marathon in sub-3hrs. He has made 7 female runners do sub-4 hours for the marathon, as well. He was inducted to the ‘Roll of Honour’  by the then College of Physical Education, organised by Singapore Olympic Academy, in 1998, for breaking the National record repeatedly 4 times, till he did 2hr 24min 22sec).

He also has a Coaching group and he trains them on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7pm at Botanic Gardens. Those interested can call him at 91004369 for coaching assistance, to improve performance.
