DOHA DIAMOND LEAGUE (6th May 2011, Fri)
Round up on the Diamond League Result
Kenyans dominate the Diamond League at Doha
In the absence of David Rudisha, Asbel Kiprop ruled the 800m men's race as the champion in the first league of the season of the Diamond League in Doha. His time was 1min 44.74sec. Penetrating the Kenyan domination in 800m in the race was Michael Rimmer from GBR who did a time of 1min 45.12sec, leaving Kenyan Alfred Kirwa, who is Rudisha's training partner to the third position.
In 1500m Kenyan Nixon Kiplimo did 3min 31.84sec to come in first leaving fellow countryman Silas Kiplagat to the second position. Silas did a time of 3min 32.15sec. Ethiopian Mekonen Mwangang came in third with a time of 3min 32.05sec
In Yenew Alaminew came in as the champion with a credible time of 7min 27.26sec in 3000m steeplechase event, leaving fellow competitors Kenyans Edwin Cheruiyot Soi and Eliud Kipchoge to second and third position, respectively. In this race, one of the favourites to win 2010 Commonwealth Games 5000m and 10000m Moses Ndiema Kipsiro from Uganda came in 7th with a credible time of 7min 31.83sec. That showed that the race was very competitive. Maybe, I believe the league is slowly gathering momentum to get faster over a period of time where the running time will be getting faster over time.
In women's race, Anna Michenko from Ukraine, the only female runner from a non-African country, came is as the champion with a time of 4min 03.01sec, showing herself as the clear winner, leaving Kenya's Irene Jelagat to the second position. Irene did 4min 04.89sec and Morocco's Siham Hilali came in third with a time of 4min 05.18sec.
