When he met Coach Rameshon and Ashley Liew in Gold Coast, Szerk saw the opportunity to run fast and took it. His success was seen when he did 1hr 47min 07sec for last year's Sundown Marathon, for the half- marathon race.

Since the day he joined us, Szerk was improving in 5km from August 2012 to May 2013. From a time of 26min, when 1st starting to training with Flexifitness, he brought his time down to 22min 40sec. After some months of training, he had some injuries and was out of action. However, in the past few months, he came back with resilience and brought the time finally down to 21min 57sec last week on 5th/08/2014 and broke the 22min 5km barrier. When I talk to him, I feel that he is gaining a lot of confidence and will go further in his running performance in the future.

An Interview With Szerk

1. How did you come to know about FlexiFitness?

I first met coach Rameshon at Gold Coast Marathon. During that race, I was injured and reckon that if I want to make running a lifetime habit, I should learn how to run properly and also to learn from the best!

2. What made you join FlexiFitness eventually?

It was an easy decision. I had a chat with coach Rameshon on the coach back to Brisbane airport. He extended an invite and I am more than happy to be on.

3. How long have you been in this running group?

Coming to about 2 years.

4. How about your personal best for 2.4km, 5, 10, Half Marathon and Marathon in July 2012, when you first joined FlexiFitness?

My PB for 2.4km was during NS time when I was 19. I did 9hr 30min. I never ran a 5km or 10km before. 21km PB was 2hr 10min and Marathon was 5hr 15min

5. What are your personal bests for 2.4km, 5, 10, Half Marathon and Marathon now?

I did not run a 2.4km. But I guess I could come close to 10mins now being 40 :). 21km PB is 1hr 47min and marathon 4hr 05min

6. Are you happy with your progress?

Yes. I am ok to progress gradually, and most importantly to stay injury-free and enjoy the run!

7. What are your short term goals?

To go below 1hr 45min for 21km and sub 4hr for SCB

8. Midterm goals?

To run comfortably a 21km in 1hr 35min to 1hr 40min and 3hr 45min for a full marathon.
