Coffee - Research has conclusive evidence that it does boost performance

Picture 1 - Major research is being done on coffee

I remember a time when my uncle by the name of Guna came to Singapore to meet my family when we were young. He was a Selangor Tamil basketball player. He taught my brother and me how to play an effective basketball, and we were able to play fairly well over time a period of time.

Later on, we formed a team to practice and compete as a team with another team, I was always on his side.  To my utter surprise, we were able to play and win a team of skilful basketball players who used to play and practice nearly every day in our neighbourhood. I must attribute this success to him.

Within seconds, my uncle was able to dribble past, with tremendous speed, many skilful players from our court to the opponent's court and score. He was able to score from long shots as well. He was also a sharpshooter at the same time. To me, even now, I find him as one of the most skilful basketball players that I have ever seen in my life. The only disadvantage he had was his height. He was found to be short for this game and, it was not favourable to play with state team in Malaysia as the players are usually tall. In basketball, if one is tall there is an advantage.

It was because of him that I started to play everyday basketball for nearly two solid years. I used to practice basketball skills for nearly 2 to 3 hours in a session. I was mad about basketball. Earlier on, before playing basketball, I was playing soccer in my early teenage years for every single day.

I remember Guna telling us to drink tea before a game. At first, I thought it was a weird idea. He told us that the blood will be stimulated and he can play well. I made the tea for him before a game. I did not see any effect and was wondering on how on earth the tea is having an effect on him such that he plays very well.

From here, I come to know that Uncle Guna was informing me of a stimulant that can affect performance. However, I was not able to see anything and I did not bother taking any tea or coffee. I preferred Horlicks or milo, instead of tea or coffee. I thought that he was only joking to me about this.
