Cheruiyot wins 10,000m race in Kenyan Champs on Day 2

World women 5000m champion, Vivian Cheruiyot, made many to remember Day 2 of the National Bank of Kenya National Athletics Championships of her unstoppable fast last-lap to overcome a field of top 10,000m women field. Her wish is to run the 5000m and 10000m double in IAAF World Championships, Daegu, Korea, which is between 27 August to 4 September 2011.

The championships include World 800m record holder, David Rudisha, Olympic 1500m champion Asbel Kiprop, Commonwealth Games 400m winner Mark Mutai and his Delhi 1500m counterpart Silas Kiplagat who are getting nearer to joining Daegu soon.

Africa women 20km Race Walk champion, Grace Wanjiru, who set a new African record of 1:28:15 may make it to Daegu.

800m
The world record holder, David Rudisha, who won his race in 1:45.3, has made into the final as the other top runners of Kenya as well. Rudisha said that he actually pushed his body hard and is hoping that his dream of winning the World Championships remains intact. He is having a light strain around the ankle region. Boaz Lalang, Alfred Kirwa, David Mutinda and Jackson Kivuva will also compete for the top 3 positions.

Commonwealth champion and stablemate Boaz Lalang, Worlds silver winner, Alfred Kirwa, World junior titleholder, David Mutinda, Africa bronze winner and Jackson Kivuva will also contest the three slots up for grabs.

Rameshon has taught in Hwa Chong Institution, plus several schools, and Republic Polytechnic as well. He has won many accolades and he was awarded Merit Award for 1991 marathon performance in breaking the national record of Singapore, at that time. He has made 22 male athletes do a marathon in sub-3hrs. He has made 7 female runners do sub-4 hours for the marathon, as well. He was inducted to the ‘Roll of Honour’  by the then College of Physical Education, organised by Singapore Olympic Academy, in 1998, for breaking the National record repeatedly 4 times, till he did 2hr 24min 22sec).

He also has a Coaching group and he trains them on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7pm at Botanic Gardens. Those interested can call him at 91004369 for coaching assistance, to improve performance.
