Merga vs Mutai -The two former champs return to Bogotá


Deriba Merga of Ethiopia and Kenya's Geoffrey Mutai - Ready for the friendly challenge.

Defending champion Deriba Merga of Ethiopia will face world’s fastest marathoner Geoffrey Mutai in  Media Maratón de Bogotá, which will be held on 31st July, South America’s only IAAF Gold Label Road Race.

Merga ran a race and set a course record 1:02:31 to win last year. However, as for this year, he will meet  Mutai.  Mutai has won all races this year. winning the Boston Marathon in April in an astonishing 2:03:02, the fastest time ever recorded for a marathon, and then winning in the inaugural Boston 10km in 27:19 and very recently capturing the historic Castelbuono 10km in Italy.

Rameshon has taught in Hwa Chong Institution, plus several schools, and Republic Polytechnic as well. He has won many accolades and he was awarded Merit Award for 1991 marathon performance in breaking the national record of Singapore, at that time. He has made 22 male athletes do a marathon in sub-3hrs. He has made 7 female runners do sub-4 hours for the marathon, as well. He was inducted to the ‘Roll of Honour’  by the then College of Physical Education, organised by Singapore Olympic Academy, in 1998, for breaking the National record repeatedly 4 times, till he did 2hr 24min 22sec).

He also has a Coaching group and he trains them on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7pm at Botanic Gardens. Those interested can call him at 91004369 for coaching assistance, to improve performance.
