Kipruto shines at Monaco – Samsung Diamond League

Brimin Kipruto is now aiming for the World Record as the next challenge in World Champs

Monte-Carlo

Olympic champion, Brimin Kipruto, ran in an excellent manner in 3000m Steeplechase at the same time breaking the Kenyan record by doing 7min 53.64saec, at the Herculis/Samsung Diamond League race on Friday, 22nd July. Also, Kipruto is currently the second-fastest ever steeplechase runner with a time of 7:53.64, just 0.01sec away from Qatar's Saif Saaeed Shaheen's world record. Furthermore, it is worth knowing that Kipruto's last lap was done in 60 seconds.

The first kilometre was led by Haron Lagat, who did a fast 2:36.55. Subsequently, Koech, Kemboi and Kipruto, raced through the next kilometre in 5:15.28 and at the last 1km, the time was shown as 6:53. There were cues that the record could be broken but to do sub-8min, it became definite that it was possible.

Kipruto opened up a gap at the 250 metres to end Saif Shaheen's world record reign. Kemboi was second with a time of 7.55.76 and Koech doing 7:57.32.

Kipruto said that he did not know that it was a world record pace. Now, he is hoping that at the World Championships (27 August-4 September) he will do his best to break the world record.
