Buzunesh Deba ran the fastest ever marathon by a woman in California, breaking the tape in 2:23:31. Fellow male counterpart won the men's race in 2:11:18.

Then she kept going slowing down at some parts which were enough for her to clinch victory in the marathon. She is considered 11th fastest runner in the world this year.

In the men’s race, Ethiopian Terfa Negari won for the first time in seven marathons. He has come in second in three marathons already.

With the fastest course time, Deba got $5000 extra, making the total prize money to $30000 as compared to Terfa Negari collecting $25000.
