Lunging Stretch For Running - Warrior Pose (Part 2)

Lunging Stretch - Warrior Pose (Virabhadrasana)

Bring the right foot in front forming a pose similar to running, by forming a 90-degree angle at the calve muscle and the thigh muscles. The right knee is directly below the right foot. The back knee of the left knee and the hip of the body is lowered but not touching the ground but the foot of the left foot is on the floor.

What are the benefits of Virabhadrasana I?

The warrior pose provides strength to the ankles, legs, shoulders and muscles of the back. It also tones and strengthens the abdomen. It Improves balance and posture and energizes the entire body.

Cautions
This asana should not be practised if have a recent or chronic injury to the hips, knees, back or shoulders.

Rameshon has taught in Hwa Chong Institution, plus several schools, and Republic Polytechnic as well. He has won many accolades and he was awarded Merit Award for 1991 marathon performance in breaking the national record of Singapore, at that time. He has made 22 male athletes do a marathon in sub-3hrs. He has made 7 female runners do sub-4 hours for the marathon, as well. He was inducted to the ‘Roll of Honour’  by the then College of Physical Education, organised by Singapore Olympic Academy, in 1998, for breaking the National record repeatedly 4 times, till he did 2hr 24min 22sec).
