Makau Aiming for Frankfurt Marathon
The elite fields were announced today by organisers of the BMW Frankfurt Marathon (28 October). The organisers confirmed that defending champion Mamitu Daska and World record holder Patrick Makau are running.
In the Men's Open category, there will be five runners with personal bests of 2:05:45 or better. The course record was set by Kenyan Wilson Kipsang who has done a 2:03:42 in 2011. It was actually four seconds slower than Patrick Makau’s World record of 2:03:38, which he ran in Berlin.
In last Sunday's race Makau watched the Berlin Marathon, where his fellow Kenyan Geoffrey Mutai was going for his World record where he had to be contented with a world-leading time of 2:04:15.
"I followed the Marathon on TV – but I cannot comment on the race," Makau told reporters. "I can only speak for myself: my training went well. And having seen the Berlin race this has motivated me for Frankfurt."
Makau will be eager to establish himself as the world’s fastest Marathon runner of the year by targeting Mutai's 2:04:15 run. It could well turn out to become a World record chase if conditions are fine.
