Posture - First and foremost for running faster

Picture 1 - By seeing Dr Kelvin Ng, Ashley Liew has been out of injury for long and continuity is the name of the game in running a faster time.

It was from Percy Cherutty's book that I came to know that it was important to get our posture correct before we can even train. I was around 22 years old at that time when I took note of this.

In Dr Ben Tan's book on 'Run for you Life,' he has explained that there are big four that we need to know in running in order to improve our timing. One of the big four is gait. When we run, we tend to run such that we may be wasting time running high in the air rather than to have quick ground contact.

We also tend to sway at our ankles, knees, hips and shoulders. We sway sideways going left and right-hand side, sometimes we go up and downwards. Hence, it is good to have good gait analysis to know one's weakness so that one can correct it to run faster. A short cut to this is to get it corrected when, in fact, you are not injured, but are about to get in the near or mid-term, so that you are not injured in the long run.

Running economy is one of the reasons why the world records will still go in distance races. The focus of the scientific world at present is more towards running economy than anything else. (We have Newton, Chi, Pose Method Running etc.) A good gait in running ensures that oxygen is used in running rather than in less economical movements of the body during a run.

One would be able to get a good time if one does something about it when one is young and not when one is old.

In order to get a good gait, one will need to improve one's posture by aligning the body. It is a short cut to have good posture and physical well-being. Strength training and suppleness of the body are next in line to running faster as well, which I will not discuss here but will discuss in other parts later on in other blogposts.

Hence, in order to discuss on how to get a good posture in running and to run injury-free, I have invited an expert Dr Kelvin Ng, Ashley Liew's chiropractor to explain on the benefits of seeing a chiropractor to ensure that one is healthy and lead a happy life by being able to sit, stand, walk and run with ease. In short, it allows continuity in running and this will finally expedite in one's progress in running.

Extensive running from young allows one to run faster over a period of time. By being injury-free one will have the ability to keep improving in running times over time. Trust me!
