Ethan Oh - From 12th position to 6th.

Like his sister, Emma Oh, Ethan Oh is training to become a triathlete in the long run. They have taken an interest in running recently and they have been doing well recently.

Ethan Oh has a swimming competition tomorrow. Today, he ran in the Woodlands Waterfront Park 1.5km Run and did the parents proud by coming in 6th, instead of 12th in the race. It was organised by Chongfu Primary School. The parents told me these piece of good news and attributed the activities done in Flexifitness Young Champions Programme has somehow helped him run faster.

Let us learn about this young chap who is versatile in running and swimming as well. He has been progressing well in running and he is getting faster. He is also getting faster in swimming as well as reported by the parents.

We will interview this young ladd who like to train and do well and keep doing his personal best in the two chosen sports.

An Interview With Ethan Oh

What was the race called?

Woodlands Waterfront Park run.

What kind of race was this?

It was an inter-class run organised by Chong Fu Primary School.

What was the exact distance?

1.5km

How did you do last year as compared to this year's performance?

I was 12th position. As for this year, I came in 6th unexpectedly.

Are you happy about this?
Definitely. I have never achieved this kind of standard and I was just hoping for top ten positions.

I stopped half-way in the past. As for this year, I did not stop throughout the race. I followed what my coach has been telling me all the while - start moderate and finish fast. He taught me on how to overcome stitch during the race and I overcame it today.

Can you share with us on the Young Champions Programme on anyway it had helped you today?
I was able to catch up with a lot of people and gradually rise up to the top ten. Over time, I kept overtaking a number of boys and eventually emerged 6th and it was not tiring at all this time. I had the stamina and at the same time feel that there was increased strength in me and it had helped in the running performance. I feel great about this improvement. For the last part of the race, I could kick better and come back faster, this year. As for last year's race, I had no energy towards the end of the race.

How do you find the route?
It had a number of slopes. The surface was made up of road type of material. There was no sand in the race.

Did you enjoy the run?

Yes

What was your parents' reaction?

They were very happy about my result. They just expected a medal, which is around 9th or 10th, not the 6th position.

Can you tell us about your next race?

I am going for a swimming competition tomorrow. I am hoping to do well. I am also aiming to run in the POSB race as well in the long run.
