Vivian Jepkemoi wins 5000m World Champs 2011

Vivian Jepkemoi - Triumphs in the 5000m race for women.


Kenyan Vivian Jepkemoi Cheruiyot beats fellow Kenyan runner to win in 14min 55.36sec. Ethiopians Meserat Defar and Sentayehu Ejigu had to settle for 3rd and 4th in the 5000m race. Mercy Cherono and Mercy Cherono still had a chance to win the top 3 but were relegated to 5th and 6th respectively for the race. Lauren Fleshman from the USA was the fastest non-African runner to be placed 7th in the race. 

Vivian Cheruiyot not only defended her title which she won two years ago but also to become the only second woman to win the 5000 and 10,000m double in the same Championships. With a personal best of 14:20.87, she has been unbeaten this year over any distance on the track.

Rameshon has taught in Hwa Chong Institution, plus several schools, and Republic Polytechnic as well. He has won many accolades and he was awarded Merit Award for 1991 marathon performance in breaking the national record of Singapore, at that time. He has made 22 male athletes do a marathon in sub-3hrs. He has made 7 female runners do sub-4 hours for the marathon, as well. He was inducted to the ‘Roll of Honour’  by the then College of Physical Education, organised by Singapore Olympic Academy, in 1998, for breaking the National record repeatedly 4 times, till he did 2hr 24min 22sec).

He also has a Coaching group and he trains them on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7pm at Botanic Gardens. Those interested can call him at 91004369 for coaching assistance, to improve performance.
