Chris Thompson - Forecasted to be the future, according to Haile Gebrselassie.

Picture 1 - Chris Thompson was a surprise for Haile Gebrselassie, who was confident of winning

After Haile's win in the half-marathon in Vienna, which was a month back, in Bupa Great Manchester 10km Run Haile thought that he could win without a problem. This was proven wrong.

In the 10km race, which had Craig Mottram from Australia, Chris Thompson got Haile Gebrselassie worried throughout the race and the latter had a fright of his life on 15th May 2011 - and was then hailed as the future of distance running. Chris, a British citizen, believed that he could inflict a first 10k road blow in 17 years on Haile at the Bupa Great Manchester Run. Chris aim was to fight at the last 1km with Haile. However, this did not happen as Haile got the cue to go for it at 8km or he had to leave the victory to chances. Chris lost the race but he told that he will come back stronger the next time.

However, Thompson, 31, headed home with praise ringing in his ears after making Gebrselassie commented that Chris was the future of long-distance.

"I didn't expect Thompson to be so close," said the two-time Olympic champion. "This boy is amazing, really super. In the future, he will be the one."
