Great Eastern Run 2013

In the past, Sumathy has never taken part in a 10km race. After conditioning herself for nearly 9 months, she first ran in the Zoo Run 2013. Subsequently, she did 59min for the POSB race. Finally, after running in the Mount Faber Run, she made a decision to run in Great Eastern Half-Marathon. Let us hear from her about the Standard Chartered Marathon race preparation.

By Sumathy

In the past, I used to run a lot to keep myself healthy when I was a teenager. Later on, running on the pavement got me into trouble as I got knee injuries. I had to give up over time. After knowing Coach Rameshon, I started running for improved performance time and for health.

After an encouragement by Ashley Liew who told me to run, I decided to try to improve upon my 5km, 10km and Half-Marathon timing.

Hence, I decided to take it slow and train up for shorter distances like the 2.4km run and then progressed myself to the marathon race.

Lately, Coach Rameshon told me that although I have been training a lot, he told me that the training mileage is not enough to run and complete in a safe manner in a marathon. He wanted me to run with proper fitness and not to complete the marathon in a miserable way.

Therefore, I took part in the Zoo Run before proceeding to the POSB Run. In the POSB RUN, I did a big personal best time of 59min. That made me want to experience running in the Mizuno Wave Mount Faber Run and finally, that made me have confidence in running the Great Eastern Half-Marathon race.
