Injury - Not an option for those who want to elite runners
Picture 1 - Born in December
I met Dr Kelvin Ng and Ashley Liew at Gokul Vegetarian restaurant at Upper Dickson Road to celebrate
Ashley's victory in the Singapore Standard Chartered Marathon 2012 as a local
champion after 3 years attempt. We felt, " Well, it
is about time we celebrate. Ashley may have done 2hr 35min 40sec in Gold Coast
marathon July 2012 but still, he had to prove himself by winning at least in the home
ground." It was another challenge altogether, totally. We did not want time the year to go just like that by not celebrating.
The good thing
is that, this year, Ashley Liew has made a number of impact in triathlon races,
Texas Ironman race and the Stanchart marathon 2012. A lot of good news came this
year. Within 4 years, Ashley, from 39min plus in 10km, brought the timing down to sub - 35min, three times. In POSB race, he emerged as a
champion, defending his title for the race which he won last year as
well.
Picture 2 - Not just coaching alone, but you need to improve your gait and running mechanics through proper alignment of the body.
As for the Ironman race, he was the second-fastest in the Singapore History by
a local with a time of 10hr 03min for the race.
Ashley told me that the Ironman may be the last that he is going to
attempt. I was glad that he did well.
Yesterday, Dr Kelvin told me that he would like to celebrate Ashley's
belated birthday with mine, which falls on a later date of Dec.
During the dinner, I was talking to Dr Kelvin that in the past Ashley used
to get himself injured many times. I told him that for this year he was in no
way injured. I felt that many people out there are training with their feet and
legs not conditioned or aligned to run properly. The runners' running technique is
affected by lifestyle and I feel strongly, from my heart, that going to a chiropractor would be a good choice to expedite
one's improvement in running before in fact coaching takes place.
I felt that to improve in running and to find a coach next, one should first
correct the body posture and make amends for bodily posture. Alignment is important.
Yoga also aligns a person. However, a faster way is to see a chiropractor and
to do a quick fix and to sit, walk or run in a correct way.
After our treat from Dr Kelvin, Ashley and I cut the cake together and made
our wishes. We finally took some pictures before
deciding to go home after a fruitful meeting. I told Dr Kelvin to write in my blog his articles and he gladly consented to do this.
