Michael Shelley - An Inspirational Australian Who Rebounded Back

In the Commonwealth Games 2010, Michael Shelley was selected to run the marathon race. He had to run on the harsh situation, which was to run in Delhi's sweltering condition at the Sansad Marg Road.

In the race, Shelley's aim before coming for the Commonwealth Games marathon was to compete only. Coming in top 3 was not in his mind. During the race, he braved all odds by breaking away from Amos, a Kenyan runner who was hanging on to the second position and attained a silver for Australia in a time of 2hr 15min 28sec. An incredible feat indeed, considering the weather condition!

In his first time ever running a marathon, Michael Shelley has already done a 2hr 13min 05sec. What was more appalling is that the Commonwealth Games marathon 2010 was only his second-ever marathon race in life.

Earlier on, in life, he was one of those who wanted to quit the sport because of stress fracture injury. He was also taken off the scholarship programme by the Australian Institute of Sport. His recovery from stress fracture took very long but with relentless hope and with the words of inspiration from coach Dick Telford he made a comeback and later on took to marathon running. He also realised that currently, he has great potential in marathon running after winning a silver medal in the Commonwealth Games.
