Chamkaur Singh - Still ranked no 1 in long distance for the year 2010

In the Singapore Athletics Association (SAA) website, Chamkaur Singh can still be found as the top middle and long-distance runner of Singapore. His fastest 5000m time for this year 2010 is 15min 11.31sec and 1500m in 3min 57.08sec. Both performances were done in Sydney. Furthermore, Chamkaur Singh has a personal best time of 3min 51sec for 1500m and 8min 31sec for 3000m. Both are National Records for men open in Singapore. He also won for Singapore a bronze medal in the 2004 SEA Games held in Vietnam.

Chamkaur recently discussed with me that his current training is going very well. He has just finished one training block where he was averaging about 90-odd kms around mid-August. At present, he is hoping to do the next training block hoping to increase the mileage to about 100-110km.

Picture 2 - Chamkaur finished his degree in Australia. Here is a picture of him doing some stretching out in the woods.

He conveyed to me that he is still keeping an eye on the 5000m. He is hoping to do some time-trials, hoping to run between 8m55sec to 9mins. He said, "Comparing this time last year, I am slightly ahead in terms of my mileages and session times. So I just have to stay healthy and uninjured for the summer season which will start in November 2010".

Picture 3- Chamkaur was sharing about training in Australia. I shared with him on my training in Kenya and Loughborough Athletics Club (LAC), in England.

These are the words of Chamkaur Singh who is still currently maintaining the top position in the long-distance running event. The other athlete who is maintaining the top position in running is Mok Ying Ren who has a personal best of 1hr 10min 22sec for the half-marathon done in Malaysia. He has also been doing some fine 5km times, recently.

An interesting fact that I would like to share with others is that I met Chamkaur's girlfriend, Lisa Howard, who talked to me in a friendly and casual manner. She told me that she is very proud of Chamkaur's achievements. I saw her as a supportive and good lifetime partner to Chamkaur Singh. We would like to wish all the best to Chamkaur Singh and Lisa Howard.
